I hope you and your loved ones stay healthy and safe during this unsettling time. I know we will all get through this with most likely a different perspective on how we live our life.
I’ve seen (and read) several articles on how to be more productive during a quarantine, how to meditate more effectively, tips and strategies on how to manage anxiety and stress, and so on, but let’s be honest, sometimes we want to be able to feel what we’re feeling and sit with those feelings for a minute. It’s ok to cry or sit on the couch watching tv, bake a decadent dessert, listen to music, read for endless hours, and be unproductive. Why would I suggest this? Because I think it’s important to grieve all the things life offered before COVID-19. Once we suffer, we can move forward and learn to better navigate this new way of life.
First thing in the morning, I write in this journal. I love this journal because it starts and ends my day with a guided focus on being positive and grateful. If my day goes awry, I end it with a significant emphasis on positivity, eliminating lingering negative thoughts before I go to sleep. Alternatively, I use the Better Self Journal, which is more focused on goal setting and achievement tracking for businesses but also has a gratitude component.
I came across The Happy Newspaper when it was mentioned on a podcast, and I began following them on Instagram. It’s a newspaper dedicated to celebrating all that is good in the world. I love reading beautiful and heartfelt stories from around the world. It’s just a significant departure from the news of today.
For me, cooking and baking is a mood shifter, and I love that my five-year-old daughter is starting to enjoy it too. We turn on the music and get lost in the kitchen’s measuring, dicing, blending, and aromatic smells. Plus, it’s a creative way to demonstrate math principles to her without her feeling it’s “schoolwork!”
